Best Places to Buy in The Bahamas

The Bahamas is a world class vacation destination. It is a living post card, with white sand beaches and crystal clear turquoise waters. Who wouldn’t want to own a vacation property in The Bahamas? The question however, is where is the best place to buy your vacation property?

Paradise Island

Paradise Island is the most popular vacation spot in The Bahamas. Tourists flock to Nassau via plane, yacht, and cruise ship to this sunbathing mecca. There are no shortage of things to do on Paradise Island during the day on the water or at night on the town, Paradise Island has it all.

For those considering buying a property where you will be relying on rental income to cover your carrying costs of the home, a large number of tourists will be important. Nassau received over 70,000 visitors by air last year, this is a lot of potential clients for your home.

If you plan to use your property regularly, Paradise Island may not be your cup of tea however. The island is fairly busy compared to some of the other islands in The Bahamas, this is the dilemma you will face.

Grand Bahama

Location, location, location. Grand Bahama is just 55 miles from the coast of Florida, making it an quick and easy destination for many Americans looking for a property outside of the US. Grand Bahama offers many of the amenities of Paradise Island, but has a much quieter, and slower vibe.

Freeport is the major city on Grand Bahama, where you will find an International Airport for easy access. You won’t see the large number of tourists you see on Paradise Island but they still attract 10,000 visitors by plane and another 60,000 by boat.

Bimini

Another spot with a great location, Bimini is only 50 miles away from Florida. Bimini is a perfect escape away from your hectic lifestyle, with its slow pace of life. You won’t have all the amenities of Paradise Island or Grand Bahama, but the people who live and buy here want it that way.

Again, if you are going to be relying on rental income, Bimini will be a tougher location to fill your home. Most buyers for these islands are looking for more of a vacation property than an investment property.

The Abacos

The Abacos are a 120 mile long chain of islands, which each have their own charms and appeals. Although not large in population, these islands can still offer a lot depending on your needs and desires. The most populous island in the chain is  Great Abacos, although the entire chain only has a population of less than 20,000 residents.

This is another destination which is perfect as your personal getaway. A little more difficult to get to than your major destination, but this is really part of the appeal to this chain. The Abacos offer all the great physical features of the other islands, without the crowds. The prices are also much better on these islands than some others as well!
