It has been a long 4 months for sun lovers who have not been able to see their favorite beaches since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. The good news is some locations are now open to non-essential travel and others are getting closer. Keep in mind that most locations will have health check requirements to gain access so travel will not be business as usual. Let’s take a quick look at the Caribbean re-opening plan for who is open and who is opening soon:
USVI – The US Virgin Islands opened back up on June 1st to travelers.
St Lucia and Antigua – Opened June 4th.
Turks and Caicos – Will reopen on July 22nd (subject to change depending on Covid situation on the islands).
Cayman Islands – Was schedule to open on September 1, but again due to conditions on the ground this could change.
The Bahamas – July 1st the country will re-open.
Anguilla – No date announced as of the time of this post.
Aruba – Will open July 10th.
BVI – No date announced as of the time of this post.
St. Barts – June 22nd.
St. Maarten / St Martin – July 1st.
St. Kitts – No date announced as of the time of this post.
Jamaica – June 15th
Dominican Republic – July 1st
With the situation in some of these locations being fluid, these dates are subject to change. The good news however is we are seeing the light at the end of the tunnel with regards to the Caribbean re-opening, and the islands can’t wait to welcome you back!
Buying and Financing Properties After Reopening
In some locations we are offering financing again, primarily in the Turks and Caicos and The Bahamas. Due to our lenders inability to do site visits, loans in other locations have been put on hold. As travel starts to increase, we would expect that some buyers may want to take advantage of a cooler market. This may be a good plan but keep in mind that not all our lenders are operating including some of the banks which have put lending on hold.
The islands of the Caribbean rely heavily on tourism, so if you have the ability, this summer is a great time to visit. Please travel safe and travel smart, wear a mask!
